The
Meatpacking District & Chelsea Gourmet Market Tour
Looking
for the hippest new area in New York? Enjoy sampling a variety
of delicious foods?
Manhattan's
Meatpacking District and the Chelsea Gourmet Food Market
and the Far West Village (The "New" Meatpacking
District) are what we will explore. The transformation of
these two areas over the past few years will astound you.
The
Chelsea Gourmet Food Market is an enormous indoor complex
that takes up an entire city block. It houses five unique
bakeries, a real dairy from the Hudson Valley in NY State,
and the largest produce shop in NYC. In addition, the market
includes an amazing wholesale and retail fish market, an
Italian specialty shop, an eclectic wine store, and much
more. As you stroll through Chelsea Market you will learn
about its history and the history of some carefully selected
food establishments while tasting a variety of gourmet specialties.
Chelsea Market is also the "new" home to the
"TV Food Network"!
The
Meatpacking District is an area in the Far West Village
that had over 125 facilities selling meats of all different
types. These facilities have been supplying restaurants
in New York City for the past 100 years. There are about
30 meat packing plants left and the area is changing dramatically.
The neighborhood is now home to some of New York's most
exclusive clubs, trendy restaurants, designer stores and
art galleries.
